Karate Australia invites members to nominate for the 2026 National Athlete Program (Program). The Program is designed to support athletes particiption in internation level events.

Registration closes 15 December 2025.

Program membership is only open to Karate Australia members who are members of a member club. Please note an athlete who is no longer a member of Karate Australia as a result of non renewal or being a member of a non member club is ineligible for selection into a National Team. 

Only registered members of the 2026 Program will be considered for selection into a National Team. In addition, membership will entitle you to the full benefits of the domestic Training and Competition Program as communicated by the National Coaches Commission. 

Program members will be allocated to groups post registration. Your allocation will be communicated to you. This allocation will take into account the following:

• Athletes health and well-being;
• National Team Selection Criteria as published by the National Coaches Commission on the Karate Australia website;
• potential to win and/or develop into an international champion;
• performances in endorsed International Events, Australian Open and National Championships;
• adherence to National Coaches Commission training programs;
• results in any play-off(s) for contestant positions;
• attendance and results from compulsory Squad training and/or camps.

2026 International Events Selection

• Selection is based on published criteria available on the Karate Australia website.
• Attendance at compulsory events is a requirement to be considered for selection.
• Athletes selected to represent Australia must:
  • Adhere to team protocols and conduct standards.
  • Wear the official Australian team tracksuit and uniform at all designated times.
• Coaches may make recommendations where specified, but final selection lies with the National Selection Panels.
• Athletes will represent their club at international events except where Karate Australia offers an international serviced event, where athletes will represent Australia.

Compulsory Events for Selection (All Programs)

The following events are compulsory for consideration for national team selection in 2026:

Premier League / Serie A / Youth League Events

All athletes must register through their club, with Karate Australia available to assist in the process.

International Pathways Program (IPP) and Tour Events

Details of IPP tours and associated requirements will be released separately. Team protocols apply to all athletes on any Karate Australia-led tour.
